OVERVIEW
Dr. Jingcheng Ma teaches fluid mechanics at three levels:
1. AME 30331 (Fluid Mechanics) for ME/AE undergraduate students.
2. AME 70731 (Viscous Flow Theory) for ME/AE graduate students.
3. AME 70671 (Thermofluids Designs in Biomedicine) for BioE/ME graduate students.
AME 30331: Fluid Mechanics

Course Description: An introductory course in fluid mechanics. The course includes eight chapters: (1) Fluid Properties, (2) Hydrostatics, (3) Fluid Dynamics including Bernoulli’s equation, (4) Fluid Kinematics, (5) Conservation laws in integral form, (6) Conservation laws in differential form, including Navier-Stokes equation, and potential flow, (7) Dimensional analysis, (8) Internal flows, external flows, and turbulence. Upon successful completion of the course, the students will have the fundamental knowledge and problem-solving skills needed to understand, analyze, and design fluid systems.

AME 70671: Thermofluids Designs in Biomedicine
Time: Tuesday/Thursday 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Location: Debartolo Hall 334
Course Description: This graduate-level course is intended for students with interests in microscale thermal and fluidic phenomena in the design of biomedical devices. The course will begin with introduction level fluid mechanics and heat transfer, then focus on interfacial thermofluidic systems that are closely related to biomedical topics such as biosensors, wearable technologies, bio-adhesives, cell and tissue cultures, and thermal therapies. Specific topics on interfacial phenomena will include capillarity, wettability, functional coatings, non-covalent interactions, nucleation, and fouling. Methods like scaling analysis, non-dimensionalization, and the use of large language models such as ChatGPT will be emphasized to solve interdisciplinary problems with different levels of complexity.

AME 70731: Viscous Flow Theory

Course Description: This graduate-level course focuses on learning, analyzing, and discussing fluid flows where viscosity is important. The course begins with mathematical foundations and the Navier-Stokes equations, followed by exact solutions of the N-S equations. The course then includes three parts: (1) High-Reynolds-number flows, including boundary layer theories and an introduction to turbulence and stability theory; (2) Low-Reynolds-number flows, including lubrication theory and creep flow; and (3) Complex fluids, including non-Newtonian fluids and capillary behaviors.
